Cocky

Many Democrats say Mr. Bush and Mr. Rove have reached too far on Social Security and are headed for the first big defeat of their partnership. Republicans have yet to settle their own differences; Mr. Kemp, for one, continues to publicly support the approach Mr. Rove objected to, which is embodied in legislation sponsored by Representative Paul D. Ryan of Wisconsin and Senator John E. Sununu of New Hampshire.

And there is grumbling among some Republicans that Mr. Rove has mishandled the Social Security campaign. But Mr. Rove's allies and fans say that he anticipated the difficulties of moving the Social Security debate forward and that he and Mr. Bush remain convinced that they will win in the end.

"Anyone who thinks otherwise," said Charlie Black, a veteran Republican strategist, "they're underestimating Karl and they're underestimating the president."
Misunderstanding what?

Rove and Bush could careless about anyone or anything besides themselves and their narrow interests. Do not underestimate or misunderstand they are committed to a strategy of recklessness. Pushing Congress on unpopular SS reform is one example and interfering with Teri Shiavo is another. These guys will not stop. Don't misunderstand or underestimate them. Especially you in the GOP seeking reelection in 2006.

Moral Lessons

Brook's Lessons for today:
  • Republicans are morally superior and believe in the "Rule of God:, Democrats are inferior and believe in "The Rule of Law".
  • Republicans absolutely respect life unless you can't afford it, then you can be unplugged by a hospital bureaucrat and left to die.
  • Democrats are flawed relativists - they are more concerned with legal process than the rule of god.

How Sad - Letting Go.

How sad.

Bob Schindler visited his daughter late Sunday and said he noticed the effects of dehydration on her. He said she appeared to be getting tired, but eventually responded to his teasing by making a face at him.

"It tells us she's still with us," he said.

Their daughter died a long time ago. Her parents are convinced she's alive and responding to them when there is no medical way congition possible - it is not true.

Her husband knows the woman, the adult Teri was, and he knows she left her body a long time ago. He isn't carrying memories of her as a child but her family does and they are convinced she's become some regressed adult trapped inside a shell. She's not. She's gone and babying what's left behind isn't fair to her. Let go of the lie and make peace.

Call the GOP Congress!

Why is Congress and CNN et al. distracted with Baseball and the Schiavo family?

Mr. Schiavo wonders too...via the Italian stallion aka Tbogg.
Michael Schiavo:

Angered by the latest political developments in Washington, Michael Schiavo said Saturday that it isn't just the Florida governor who should visit his wife to learn about the case.

[snip]
"Instead of worrying about my wife, who was granted her wishes by the state courts the past seven years, they should worry about the pedophiles killing young girls," Schiavo said, referring to a local case. "Why doesn't Congress worry about people not having health insurance? Or the budget? Let's talk about all the children who don't have homes."

Saint Joseph's Day Pastries
Custard Filling

  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • 4 tablespoons Corn Starch (1/4 cup)
  • 2 cups of milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1+1/2 teaspoon almond extract

Separate two eggs and reserve yolks in a small bowl.

Gently melt butter and then remove from burner. Add corn starch
and mix to make a paste.

Return paste mixture to the burner, add milk slowly and whisk to avoid lumping. Use a low or medium low setting to heat milk mixture and lower the setting as this thickens (over a few minutes). Let mixture thicken and bubble while mixing with a whisk. Take pot off burner and spoon some of the pudding into the bowl with egg yokes and mix. Add more pudding, mix and add the yolk pudding to the pot and heat gentle while continuing to mix the pot.

Remove pot from burner, add almond extract, mix, and empty into a serving bowl to cool.

Spoon mixture into St. Joseph's Day Pastries.
